This policy explains how TomKat Gas Training Ltd uses cookies and similar browser storage on tom-kat.co.uk. For how we handle personal information more generally, please see our Privacy Policy.
Your choices
You can select Accept, Deny or View preferences in our cookie banner. Google Analytics waits for statistics permission. Google Tag Manager is held behind the marketing choice. You can browse our public pages without accepting these optional services.
To change your choice at any time, use Manage consent at the bottom of the page, including on a mobile. Withdrawing permission stops the optional scripts from loading on subsequent page loads. It does not undo information already collected. You can also delete existing cookies and saved site data through your browser settings.
What cookies and browser storage do
Cookies are small files saved by your browser. Some are sent back to the website with later requests. Local storage keeps information in your browser between visits; session storage normally lasts only for the current tab or session. Scripts can read or write this information to provide a feature or measure website use.
We use essential storage for security, remembering your cookie choices and providing features you request. Optional analytics uses your permission. Not every item below is placed on every visit: some apply only when you use a particular tool, form or sign-in feature.
Cookies and storage used on this website
Cookie choices — Complianz
Names: cmplz_functional, cmplz_preferences, cmplz_statistics, cmplz_marketing, cmplz_consented_services, cmplz_banner-status and cmplz_policy_id.
These essential first-party cookies remember what you allowed or refused and which version of the policy your choice relates to. Duration: 365 days, unless you change your choice or clear them earlier.
Website statistics — Google Analytics
Names: _ga and _ga_*, where the ending identifies our Analytics property. They distinguish browsers and maintain session information so we can understand visits and page use. They are used after you allow statistics.
Duration: up to two years; browsers may impose a shorter limit. The expiry can refresh when Analytics runs on a later visit. Analytics information is sent to Google for processing and reporting to TomKat. See Google’s Privacy Policy and Google’s cookie information.
TomKat calculators, learning tools and progress
These tools save working information in your browser to provide the feature you use:
tomkat_iv,tomkat_installation_volume,tomkat_igem_ivandtomkat_igem_contextretain installation-volume values and calculation context for the linked gas calculators.tomkat-inspection-assistant-v3retains the working state of the gas inspection assistant.tomkat-career-journey-progress-v1*andtkcj-*retain career-journey progress and keep separate visits or personalised links associated with the correct progress. When you use a personalised link supplied by TomKat, progress is also shared with TomKat through its Google Firebase service.tkACSSubmitted_*remembers a submitted ACS game result to prevent duplicate submissions.
Duration: these are local-storage items without a built-in expiry. They remain until you clear the website’s saved data, or a tool’s reset function removes its own saved state. Clearing them may reset your saved work or progress. Clearing browser storage does not delete information already submitted to TomKat.
WordPress and website security
WordPress uses wpEmojiSettingsSupports as session storage for browser display support. Sign-in and administration features may use wordpress_test_cookie, wordpress_logged_in_*, wordpress_sec_*, wp-settings-*, wp-settings-time-*, wp_lang and WP_PREFERENCES_USER_*. These support login, language and saved display preferences; they are not advertising cookies.
Duration: test and language cookies are session cookies. Login cookies normally last for the session, or up to 14 days when “Remember Me” is selected. Settings cookies normally last one year. Preferences stored locally remain until cleared. If you open a password-protected page, wp-postpass_* normally remembers that access for 10 days.
Wordfence may use wfwaf-authcookie* to recognise authorised access to the website’s security system. Duration: one day.
Form protection — Google reCAPTCHA
Some forms use Google reCAPTCHA to help distinguish genuine visitors from automated spam. When it runs, it can use _GRECAPTCHA and local storage such as _grecaptcha for its security checks. It sends browser and interaction information to Google. The cookie normally lasts up to six months; local storage remains until cleared. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
Other Google services and external links
Google Tag Manager loads a container used to manage website tags; it is blocked until you allow the marketing category. The container checked for this update had no configured tags of its own. Google Fonts supplies some website fonts and receives the connection information needed to deliver them; this does not itself require an Analytics cookie.
Our social-media, video, map and shop links can take you to another website. A normal link does not itself place that destination’s cookies before you follow it. Once you leave our website, the destination’s own privacy and cookie information applies.
Deleting cookies and saved information
Your browser settings let you delete cookies and other site data, or block them. Blocking essential storage can affect sign-in, saved progress and some tools. Deleting our consent cookies means the website may ask for your choice again. An asterisk (*) in a name above means the ending varies between accounts, sessions or tools.
